"Let the little children come unto me." - Matthew 19: 14
First Reconciliation and Frist Holy Communion The Broader Context What a joy when a child is ready to prepare for the Sacraments of First Confession and First Holy Communion! Being forgiven of our sins in Reconciliation and receiving the most Precious Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus in the Holy Eucharist are great gifts given to us by Jesus and entrusted to the Church.
These special sacraments continue the initiation of the baptized into the life of the Church. They flow from God's gift of spiritual life in baptism and reach to completion in the glory of heaven. The path between baptism and heaven is a regular participation in the life of the Church, as we seek to follow Jesus as His disciples. Thus our sacramental prep is paired with our main Faith Formation program: Emmaus: Family of Faith.
When to Enroll We warmly welcome you to register for the 2025/2026 Holy Cross First Reconciliation and First Communion Sacramental Prep Program if:
Your child has been baptized in the Catholic Faith
Your child will be at least seven years old by the date of First Holy Communion (Sunday, May 3rd, 2026).
Your family has activily participated in faith formation for at least one year prior to sacramental prep
(Either The Emmaus program, attend Catholic School, or home school for religious education)
Currently reenrolled in this year of faith formation
Your family is actively practicing the Catholic Faith
Please reach out if any of these are obstacles and we'll be happy to support you on your way to readiness.
First Reconciliation and First Communion sacramental preparation is a joint program for all families in Holy Cross Parish. These are required additional sessions outside of the normal faith formation scheduleand/or school day. At least one parent is expected to attend these sessions with their child. They will be held once a month at St. Francis Xavier, on the noted Mondays from 6-7:30pm. Please refer below for the full schedule. Parents will meet at the same time as their children, but will have sessions geared specifically for them as adults. We will have an informational Parent Meeting on Monday, September 22nd at 6:30pm at St. Francis Xavier to go over the year ahead and to answer any questions you may have.
